Okay, so yesterday I got this random idea stuck in my head. I was just chilling, watching some old movie, and a character named Doris popped up. And I thought, “Huh, I wonder how many famous people are actually named Doris?” It was one of those thoughts you just gotta scratch, y’know?

So, the first thing I did, naturally, was hit up Google. I typed in “famous people named doris” and boom! A whole bunch of results came up. But honestly, just seeing the list wasn’t enough for me. I wanted to dig a little deeper, get some actual context.
I started clicking through the links. Wikipedia was my first stop, of course. I scanned the page and immediately spotted Doris Day. Duh! How could I forget her? I watched a few of her movies back in the day. After that, I started looking at other sites. I bounced around between some biography sites and even a couple of those “listicle” things, the kind that are like “Top 10 Famous Dorises!” or whatever.
Here’s what I pieced together after about an hour of internet sleuthing:
- Doris Day: Obviously. Singer, actress, total legend. Seriously, her movies are classics.
- Doris Lessing: This one was cool. A Nobel Prize winner for literature! I hadn’t read any of her books, but I added a couple to my “to-read” list.
- Doris Roberts: She played Marie Barone on “Everybody Loves Raymond”! That show was hilarious. I remember thinking she was so great in that role.
I even stumbled upon a few lesser-known Dorises, like Doris Hart, who was a big deal in tennis way back when. It was pretty interesting to see how many different fields women named Doris had made a mark in.
After digging around I wanted to do one better, I created a note using google keep so I can refer back to it later, It’s nothing fancy, just a list, but it keeps all the names straight.

It was a fun little dive, I gotta say. I started with a random thought and ended up learning a bunch of stuff about some pretty cool people. That’s the beauty of the internet, right? You can go from zero to kinda-knowledgeable in like an hour.
