Okay, so today I messed around with tongue twisters, specifically ones with the letter ‘p’. Here’s how it went down.

The Hunt for the Perfect P-Twister
First, I hit up Google. Just searched for “tongue twisters with p.” Tons of results, obviously. I wanted something that was challenging but not impossible, and also, you know, at least a little bit funny.
- I saw “Peter Piper picked a peck of pickled peppers…” Classic, but too easy.
- Then there was something about a “proper cup of coffee from a copper coffee pot.” Nah, not feeling it.
- Finally, I stumbled upon one that seemed promising: “Pad kid poured curd pulled cod.” What the heck does that even mean? Doesn’t matter! It’s got that “p” sound all over the place.
Practice Makes…Maybe Not Perfect
So, I started trying to say it. “Pad kid poured curd pulled cod.” Slowly at first. “Pad…kid…poured…curd…pulled…cod.” Not too bad.
Then I sped it up. “Pad kid poured curd pulled cod, pad kid poured curd pulled cod.” Okay, a little tougher. My tongue definitely started to feel like it was doing some kind of weird workout.

And that’s when the fails started. “Pad kip poured curd pulled cod!” “Pad kid poored cur pulled cod!” “Paddle kid poured curd…what was it again?”
Recording the Disaster (and Minor Success)
I decided to record myself. Figured it would be hilarious to hear how badly I was butchering this thing. I used my phone’s voice recorder. First few attempts were just train wrecks. Lots of stumbles, mispronunciations, and general tongue-tied-ness.
But, after maybe 20 tries (seriously!), I actually managed to say it three times in a row, relatively clearly, and at a decent speed. I wouldn’t say I “mastered” it, but I definitely didn’t sound like a complete idiot.
The Verdict

Tongue twisters are hard! Especially when they involve sounds that are already tricky to pronounce. But it was also kind of fun. A good way to waste an afternoon and make yourself laugh at your own clumsiness.
Next Time…
Maybe I’ll try one with “s” sounds. Or maybe I’ll just stick to talking normally. We’ll see!
