Alright, buckle up, because I’m about to spill the beans on my Munchlax hunting escapade in Brilliant Diamond/Shining Pearl (BDSP). It was a grind, let me tell ya, but totally worth it for that adorable, gluttonous beast.
So, first things first, I knew Munchlax was a pain to get. Like, a major pain. We’re talking about needing to slather honey on trees and then waiting… and waiting… and still probably not getting one. But, hey, I’m a completionist at heart, so I dove right in.
- Step 1: Honey, Honey! I hit up Floaroma Town and bought a whole bunch of honey. Like, seriously, a ton of it. I wasn’t messing around. I needed to cover all my bases, and that meant lathering up every single honey tree I could find.
- Step 2: The Great Wait. This is where the real test of patience began. Those darn trees take six hours to refresh, and even then, there’s only a tiny chance of a Munchlax appearing. I set timers, marked down which trees I’d honeyed, and tried to fill the time with other stuff in the game. Let me tell you, battling the Elite Four repeatedly gets old FAST.
- Step 3: Checking, Checking, 1, 2, 3! Every six hours, like clockwork, I’d go tree to tree, hoping for that telltale rustling. Most of the time, it was just Burmy or Heracross, which, don’t get me wrong, are cool and all, but not what I was after.
Honestly, after a few days of this, I started to lose hope. I was drowning in Combees and Wurmples. I even considered just giving up and trading for one, but my pride wouldn’t let me. I had to earn this Munchlax the hard way.
Then, it happened. I was on my usual route, checking the trees near Valley Windworks, and BAM! A different rustling sound. A feeling of nervous excitement washed over me. Could it be? I crept up to the tree, and there it was… Munchlax!
The Battle! Okay, so catching it wasn’t exactly a walk in the park. It knew Self-Destruct! Can you believe it? Talk about a heart attack. I paralyzed it with my trusty Jolteon and started chucking Ultra Balls. I was sweating bullets, praying it wouldn’t blow itself up. Finally, after what felt like an eternity, the ball clicked. One… two… three… GOTCHA!
The Aftermath
I was so stoked! All that waiting, all that honey, all that near-miss self-destruction… it was all worth it. I finally had my Munchlax. Named him “Gluttony,” naturally.
- Lessons Learned: Patience is key, my friend. Seriously, you need the patience of a saint for this one. Also, bring a Pokemon with the Damp ability to prevent Self-Destruct. It’ll save you a lot of grief.
- Would I Do It Again? Probably not. Once is enough! But hey, now I can say I did it, and that’s all that matters.
