My Hunt for a Nintendo Skin in Fortnite
Alright, let’s talk about getting one of those Nintendo skins in Fortnite. Heard people talking about special skins you could only get if you played on Switch, so I figured I’d give it a shot myself. You know, see what the fuss was all about.
First thing, I grabbed my Switch. Turned it on, waited for it to boot up, the usual stuff. Then I launched Fortnite. Took a minute to load, connects to the servers, you know how it is.
Once I was in the lobby, I immediately went to the Item Shop. Scrolled through everything they had for sale that day. Lots of cool stuff, sure, but nothing screamed “Nintendo exclusive” or had Mario’s face on it, obviously. That would be too easy, right? Spent a good few minutes just looking around, checking featured items, daily items, the works. Nothing.
Then I remembered something about needing Nintendo Switch Online. I have that subscription for playing other games online anyway. So, I thought, maybe the skin isn’t in the Fortnite shop itself, but somewhere else on the Switch?
So, I closed Fortnite. Went back to the Switch main menu. Opened up the Nintendo eShop. That little orange shopping bag icon. Once it loaded, I went straight to the search bar. Typed in “Fortnite”.
It showed the main game, of course, but also a few other things listed under it. Like add-ons or packs. I scrolled through those listings carefully. Found one pack, I think it was called something like the “Nintendo Switch Online Pack” or similar. The description mentioned needing an active Switch Online membership, which I had. And best part? It was listed as free.
- Checked my Switch Online was active (it was).
- Went into the eShop.
- Searched for Fortnite.
- Found a specific free pack tied to the Online service.
Clicked on it. Hit the download button. It was super small, downloaded in like two seconds. Didn’t even need to close the eShop, really, but I did anyway.
Okay, moment of truth. Went back to the Switch home screen. Launched Fortnite again. Waited through the loading screens… again. As soon as I got into the main lobby, boom! A little notification popped up on screen. It showed me the new items I just got from that pack I downloaded. It wasn’t Link or Samus, naturally, but it was a unique skin, maybe a glider or a pickaxe too, I forget the exact items. Stuff you apparently only get through having Switch Online and grabbing that pack from the eShop.
So yeah, that’s how I got my hands on a “Nintendo skin”. Wasn’t super obvious at first, didn’t find it in the regular item shop. Had to go through the eShop and claim that specific free pack for subscribers. A bit of a runaround, but hey, free stuff is free stuff, and it felt good to figure it out. Got myself a skin that not everyone running around on PC or PlayStation would have. Simple as that, really. Just took a bit of digging around on the Switch itself.
