Okay, so, today I wanted to catch a shiny Stakataka in Ultra Moon. I’ve been hunting this thing on and off for, like, weeks. Seriously. So, I fired up my 3DS, grabbed my trusty, not-so-shiny-anymore team, and got to work.

First, I flew over to Poni Grove. That’s where Stakataka hangs out, being all… brick-like and stuff. You gotta go through a bunch of rustling grass, and it’s a pain, but hey, gotta do what you gotta do for the shiny.
Prep Work (Important!)
- False Swipe user: Absolutely crucial. I used my trusty Scizor. Gets the job done without accidentally knocking out the shiny.
- Status condition: I went with paralysis. Sleep is good too, but I like being able to see the shiny sparkle the whole time, you know? Thunder Wave is your friend.
- Lots of Poke Balls: Beast Balls are technically the best for Ultra Beasts, but they’re expensive! I stocked up on Ultra Balls. Like, a lot of them.
- Adrenaline Orb:Make Stakataka keep calling for help.
I made sure my team was healed up, saved my game (can’t be too careful!), and then I started running around in the grass. And running. And running. Stakataka has a pretty low encounter rate, so I knew I was in for the long haul.
I used an Adrenaline Orb right away to boost the chances of Stakataka calling for help. Then, once I found one, I hit it with False Swipe to get it down to 1 HP. After that, I paralyzed it with Thunder Wave.
Now the real fun began. Stakataka would call for help, and I’d just keep knocking out the helpers until, hopefully, a shiny one appeared. It’s a grind, no doubt about it. I spent hours doing this. Hours! My eyes started to cross, and I think I saw Stakataka in my dreams.
I kept at it, though. I switched between knocking out the helpers and chucking Ultra Balls at the original Stakataka, just in case. You never know, right?

Finally after about 230 SOS calls,It sparkled! A beautiful, golden, shiny Stakataka! I almost dropped my 3DS, I was so excited. I carefully select a Beast Ball, I threw the Beast Ball, and… caught it! YES! One shake, two shake… Success!
Seriously, the relief was immense. I immediately saved my game, like, five times, just to be sure. It was totally worth it. This shiny Stakataka is awesome, and now it’s all mine! Now to figure out what to hunt next…
