2004 GS500F for Beginners: A Great First Bike or Not?

Must read

So, I’ve been thinking about getting a bike for a while now, you know, just cruising around, feeling the wind. I finally pulled the trigger and got myself a 2004 GS500F. Didn’t want anything too crazy for my first bike, figured this was a good starting point.

I found it online, looked decent in the pictures, so I went to check it out. It wasn’t my first bike, but I’ve heard it’s a fantastic first bike. The guy selling it seemed honest enough, gave me the rundown on everything. It’s a bit bigger than I thought at first, but in a good way, you know? Feels solid.

Getting it home was a bit of an adventure. A buddy of mine offered to help me pick it up since I didn’t have a truck. We drove out there, I hopped on, and followed him back to my place. Felt a little weird riding it for the first time, but it was exciting.

First thing I noticed is how smooth the power is. It’s not jerky or anything, just eases you in. You can just let the clutch out real slow, and it starts moving, no problem. And it’s got some decent pull down low, which is nice for just starting out.

Once I got it home, I spent some time just going over it, checking everything out. Changed the oil, checked the tires, that sort of thing. Just wanted to make sure everything was good to go before I really started riding it around.

  • Started it up, let it warm up good.
  • Checked all the lights, signals, everything worked.
  • Took it for a spin around the block a few times, just getting a feel for it.
  • Felt good, handled well, brakes were responsive.

I’ve been riding it around a bit more now, getting more comfortable with it. It’s definitely not a speed demon, but it’s got enough power to get up and go when you need it. I’m starting to really enjoy it.

It’s a pretty simple bike, not a lot of fancy stuff, which is kind of what I wanted. Easy to work on, too, which is a plus. I’ve heard these things are pretty reliable, so hopefully, I won’t have to do too much to it. They are good beginners’ bikes, and the models don’t change much over the years.

All in all, I’m pretty happy with the GS500F.

It’s a good, solid bike, perfect for someone like me who’s just getting into riding. I can see why people say it’s a great first bike. It’s not intimidating, but it’s still fun to ride. I’m looking forward to putting some more miles on it and really getting to know it better.

I am looking into getting a bike. I think the GS500 is an entry-level motorcycle. For your first bike, it’s a good choice. I will keep recording my riding and share it next time.
